US Sets Up 'Space Battlelab'

On 30 June, the US Air Force established a 'Space Battlelab', based at the Falcon Air Force Base in Colorado. The Battlelab, with an initial staff of 18, forms part of the Air Force's Space Warfare Center, also based at the Falcon site.

In an interview with Defense Daily, published on 1 August, the Battlelab's Acting Deputy Commander, Lt. Col. Connie Lintz, detailed the rationale and remit of new organisation:

"The Space Battlelab expects to play a leading role in...determining what changes will be needed for the service to realize its vision of becoming a space and air force. ... [Our interests] are not limited to technology solutions but also include new concepts which change doctrine, tactics, organization structures and training..."

Report: Air Force uses Battlelab process to become a 'space' force, Defense Daily, 1 August.
