China Eyes Arms Sales to Iran and Gulf States

On 19 March, a senior Chinese official spoke of her hopes for major arms sales to Iran and other states in the Persian Gulf region. Chai Zhongzhong, Assistant to the President of the National Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation, stated during a visit to Abu Dhabi:

"We want to sell more missiles to Iran... Right now we are not in talks with Iran but we are hoping to sell them anti-aircraft and sea defence missiles... We think there is a market for us in all of the Gulf States. We are not in talks with other countries in the area but we plan to make more visits in the Gulf in the future..."
