US Aid for Uzbekistan Chemical Weapons Clean-Up
On 25 May, the United States pledged $32.2 million aid to the
former Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan, partly to assist the country
in dealing with the legacy of Soviet testing of chemical and
biological weapons. The agreement was signed in Tashkent by Stephen
Sestanovich of the US State Department and Uzbekistan's Foreign
Minister, Abdulaziz Kamilov.
